One of the interesting side stories about the Principia College car is that it was built (and raced) with a total budget of approximately $186,000.  That included hotels, transportation, and meals for the team during the race.  

I understand that the University of Michigan had a budget in excess of $2,000,000.   

I think it would be an interesting story to analyze how Principia was able to do it, because it speaks to the cost effectiveness of solar technology.
