Of Metal and Sound: The Conceptual Jewelry of Artist Sakurako Shimizu

New York-based Sakurako Shimizu uses a sound-editing software to create unique jewelry that pleases both the eye and ear. Her work for women and men includes such pieces as cuff bracelets (above), necklaces, brooches and earrings. Sakurako chooses human and artificial sounds like a yawn, sneeze, giggle, wow, and a church bell as inputs into a sound-editing software environment. The resulting sound waveforms are then laser-cut into metal, like silver, palladium or gold.
