Stumbled upon by way of designer Jonathan Moore’s blog: photographs of signage found in Miami Beach’s Art Deco Historic District. Taken by Minneapolis-based design boutique Eight Hour Day, the photos exude the elegance that is a hallmark of the Art Deco movementâ€a charming mash-up of Broadway, beach and Copacabana, materialized in metal and neon lighting.
The ultimate compliment (within Eight Hour Day’s blog comments) for these signs came from graphic designer and photographer Adam Lorber, who was raised in Miami Beach: “Makes me miss home. Signage can have sentimental value.
These Miami signs have character, and they’re composed of characters. And characters welcome.
