Daily Aluminum Market Roundup – Prices Keep Dropping Globally

On May 14, 2012, the 3-month price of primary aluminum fell by 0.7 percent on the LME, landing at $2,031 per metric ton and making it the day’s biggest mover on aluminum markets. The LME cash price of primary aluminum declined 0.6 percent to $1,992 per metric ton. Meanwhile, the cash price of Indian primary aluminum weakened by 0.4 percent.

Chinese aluminum prices were mixed for the day. The price of Chinese aluminum billet moved yesterday — after a few changeless days, the billet price dropped 0.3 percent. On the SHFE, Chinese primary aluminum cash price fell 0.1 percent to CNY 16,040 ($2,541) per metric ton. The price of Chinese aluminum scrap saw little movement, keeping above $2,600 per metric ton. The price of Chinese aluminum bar was unchanged, remaining above $2,200 per metric ton.
