On Aug. 16, 2012, the day’s biggest mover on MetalMiner’s steel price index was the steel billet cash price, which saw a 1.4 percent increase on the LME to $360 per metric ton. The 3-month price of steel billet saw a 1.2 percent decline on the LME to $360 per metric ton.
Chinese steel prices were flat for the day. The high and low prices of iron ore 58% fines from India ranged between $130 and $135 per dry metric ton.
The price of Chinese HRC remained essentially flat, and the price of Chinese coking coal saw essentially no change for the fifth day in a row.
Following three days of little change, the US HRC futures contract spot price rose by 0.6 percent to $645 per short ton. At $650, the 3-month price of the US HRC futures contract finished the market day up 0.3 percent per short ton.
