Steel Markets Quiet, Chinese HRC Price Finishes Flat Going Into Week

On Aug. 24, 2012, Chinese HRC didn’t move on MetalMiner’s steel price index, staying between $550 and $600 per metric ton.

The price of Chinese coking coal saw essentially no change for the fifth day in a row, and Chinese slab saw little change in its price last Friday as well. The high and low prices of iron ore 58% fines from India remained in the $130-135 per dry metric ton range.

On the LME, the steel billet cash price showed little movement last Friday, hovering around $340.00 per metric ton. Also on the LME, the steel billet 3-month price remained essentially flat at $345.00 per metric ton.

The US HRC futures contract 3-month price saw little movement at $650.00 per short ton. The US HRC futures contract spot price continues hovering around $645.00 per short ton for the fifth day in a row.
