Base Metal Price Update – Aluminum, Copper Prices Drop

Current Aluminum Prices Down

The aluminum cash price saw the biggest decline of the day, dropping 2.7 percent on the LME to close at $1,991 per metric ton on Oct. 11, 2012. On the LME, the 3-month price of aluminum declined 2.7 percent to $2,020 per metric ton.

The Indian aluminum cash price saw little price change on Thursday.

Chinese aluminum closed mixed on Thursday. Chinese aluminum billet fell 0.3 percent on Thursday. The Chinese aluminum cash price fell 0.1 percent. The price of Chinese aluminum scrap continues hovering around the same spot for the fifth day in a row. The price of Chinese aluminum bar remained essentially flat.

Current Copper Prices Drop Too

The day’s biggest mover was Chinese copper wire, dropping 0.2 percent on Oct. 11, 2012. Chinese copper bar stayed flat. The cash price of Chinese copper saw little movement yesterday. For the fifth day in a row, the price of Chinese bright copper scrap remained essentially flat.

The prices of US copper producer grades 102, 110 and 122 held steady on Thursday. The Japanese copper cash price saw little movement.

The cash price of primary copper weakened by 0.1 percent on the LME, settling at $8,124 per metric ton. Also on the LME, the 3-month price of copper showed little movement yesterday, hovering around $8,127 per metric ton.
