Current Aluminum Price Drops, LME Copper Up on Daily Index

Current Global Aluminum Prices

Dropping 1 percent on the LME, the aluminum cash price was the biggest mover on Oct. 17, 2012, closing at $1,930 per metric ton. The aluminum 3-month price on the LME has been on the decline for 7 days and is now at $1,961 per metric ton. The Indian aluminum cash price steadied following two days of dropping prices.

The cash price of Chinese aluminum held steady. For the fifth day in a row, the price of Chinese aluminum scrap remained essentially flat.

Chinese aluminum billet also held its value yesterday, and Chinese aluminum bar fails to move for the fifth day in a row.

Current Global Copper Prices

Weakening prices changed direction when the copper 3-month price rose 0.3 percent on Oct. 17, 2012 on the LME to $8,146 per metric ton. The cash price of primary copper rose 0.1 percent on the LME to $8,140 per metric ton after a two-day drop.

The prices of US copper producer grades 102, 110 and 122 weakened by 0.2 percent. For the fifth day in a row, the cash price of primary Japanese copper remained essentially flat.

Chinese copper bar, wire and bright copper scrap prices closed flat for the day.
