Nickel 3-Month Price Switches Direction

 On Dec. 14, 2012, the day’s biggest mover was the 3-month price of nickel, which saw a 1.9 percent decline on the LME to $17,500 per metric ton. The Indian nickel cash price gained 1.9 percent to finish at INR 962.80 ($17.68) per kilogram. After improving for two days, the spot price of nickel declined 1.9 percent on the LME to $17,425 per metric ton.

Chinese stainless steel prices were flat for the day. The price of Chinese ferro-chrome saw little movement at CNY 8,300 ($1,329) per metric ton. For the fifth consecutive day, the price of Chinese ferro-moly held flat at CNY 145,000 ($23,209) per metric ton.

The price of Chinese 316 stainless coil continues hovering around CNY 27,000 ($4,322) per metric ton for the fifth day in a row. The price of Chinese 304 stainless coil showed little movement last Friday at CNY 18,100 ($2,897) per metric ton. For the fifth day in a row, the price of Chinese 316 stainless steel scrap remained essentially flat at CNY 16,600 ($2,657) per metric ton. Chinese 304 stainless steel scrap saw little change in its price last Friday at CNY 18,100 ($2,897) per metric ton. The price of Chinese primary nickel remained essentially flat at CNY 123,200 ($19,720) per metric ton.
