Chinese Primary Nickel Sees Small Price Drop

On Dec. 19, 2012, the price of Chinese primary nickel fell by 1.1 percent, landing at CNY 122,000 ($19,560) per metric ton and making it the day’s biggest mover. The price of Chinese 304 stainless steel scrap remained essentially flat at CNY 18,100 ($2,902) per metric ton. The price of Chinese 316 stainless steel scrap saw essentially no change for the fifth day in a row, remaining around CNY 16,600 ($2,661) per metric ton. The price of Chinese 304 stainless coil held steady at CNY 18,100 ($2,902) per metric ton. The price of Chinese 316 stainless coil held steady at CNY 27,000 ($4,329) per metric ton.

The price of Chinese ferro-chrome saw little movement at CNY 8,300 ($1,331) per metric ton. The price of Chinese ferro-moly remained essentially flat at CNY 145,000 ($23,247) per metric ton.

The Indian nickel cash price fell 0.6 percent to INR 962.40 ($17.55) per kilogram. On the LME, the spot price of nickel rose 0.5 percent to $17,645 per metric ton. On the LME, the nickel 3-month price held steady around $17,700 per metric ton.
