Spot Price of Nickel Moving Again

The nickel spot price increased by 1.3 percent on Dec. 28, 2012 to $17,225 per metric ton on the LME, making it the day’s biggest mover. The 3-month price of nickel nudged up 1.2 percent on the LME last Friday, closing at $17,275 per metric ton. The cash price of primary Indian nickel fell 0.8 percent to INR 937.80 ($17.07) per kilogram.

Chinese stainless steel prices were mixed for the day. For the fifth day in a row, the price of Chinese ferro-chrome remained essentially flat at CNY 8,300 ($1,330) per metric ton. The price of Chinese ferro-moly held steady at CNY 145,000 ($23,234) per metric ton.

After a 0.3 percent increase, the price of Chinese primary nickel finished the day at CNY 120,000 ($19,228) per metric ton. The price of Chinese 316 stainless coil showed little movement last Friday at CNY 26,900 ($4,310) per metric ton. For the fifth consecutive day, the price of Chinese 304 stainless coil held flat at CNY 18,000 ($2,884) per metric ton. The price of Chinese 316 stainless steel scrap remained essentially flat at CNY 16,600 ($2,660) per metric ton. The price of Chinese 304 stainless steel scrap saw little movement at CNY 18,000 ($2,884) per metric ton.
