3-Month Price of Aluminum Improves 2.7%

On Jan. 3, 2013, the aluminum 3-month price experienced the biggest change, rising 2.7 percent on the LME to $2,127 per metric ton. On the LME, the primary aluminum cash price gained 2.6 percent to finish at $2,093 per metric ton. The cash price of primary Indian aluminum inched up 2.1 percent to INR 114.70 ($2.11) per kilogram.

Chinese aluminum prices were flat for the day. For the fifth day in a row, the price of Chinese aluminum scrap remained essentially flat at CNY 12,800 ($2,053) per metric ton. The price of Chinese aluminum billet remained steady at CNY 15,100 ($2,422) per metric ton. The price of Chinese aluminum bar held steady at CNY 14,050 ($2,254) per metric ton. For the fifth consecutive day, the cash price of Chinese aluminum held flat at CNY 15,060 ($2,416) per metric ton.
