The aluminum cash price rose 0.6 percent on Jan. 18, 2013, making it the day’s biggest mover. After two days of falling prices on the LME, it closed at $2,003 per metric ton. Following a two-day drop, the aluminum 3-month price increased by 0.4 percent on the LME to $2,040 per metric ton. The cash price of primary Indian aluminum declined 0.3 percent to INR 109.05 ($2.01) per kilogram.
Chinese aluminum prices were mixed for the day. The cash price of Chinese aluminum gained 0.2 percent to finish at CNY 14,970 ($2,407) per metric ton. The price of Chinese aluminum scrap continues hovering around CNY 12,800 ($2,058) per metric ton for the fifth day in a row. After dropping for two days, the price of Chinese aluminum billet flattened at CNY 14,850 ($2,388). The price of Chinese aluminum bar saw little movement at CNY 14,050 ($2,259) per metric ton.
