Cash Price of Aluminum Rises 0.9%

The cash price of primary aluminum saw a 0.9 percent increase on Jan. 21, 2013, reaching $2,021 per metric ton on the LME and making it the biggest mover for the day. On the LME, the 3-month price of aluminum increased 0.9 percent to $2,057 per metric ton. The cash price of primary Indian aluminum weakened by 0.7 percent, settling at INR 108.25 ($2.01) per kilogram.

Chinese aluminum prices were mixed for the day. After holding steady for the past few days, the price of Chinese aluminum scrap fell 0.5 percent, closing at CNY 12,730 ($2,048) per metric ton. The price of Chinese aluminum billet increased 0.3 percent to CNY 14,900 ($2,397) per metric ton. The price of Chinese aluminum bar held steady at CNY 14,050 ($2,261) per metric ton. The cash price of Chinese aluminum saw little movement last Friday at CNY 14,970 ($2,409) per metric ton.
