Cash Price of Aluminum Weakens After Climb

On Jan. 22, 2013, the day’s biggest mover was the cash price of primary aluminum, which saw a 1.0 percent decline on the LME to $2,000 per metric ton. After improving for two days, the aluminum 3-month price declined 0.8 percent on the LME to $2,040 per metric ton. The Indian aluminum cash price weakened by 0.6 percent, settling at INR 107.65 ($2.00) per kilogram.

Chinese aluminum prices closed flat for the day. The Chinese aluminum cash price remained essentially flat at CNY 14,960 ($2,404) per metric ton. The price of Chinese aluminum scrap remained essentially flat at CNY 12,730 ($2,046) per metric ton. Chinese aluminum billet saw little change in its price yesterday at CNY 14,900 ($2,395) per metric ton. The price of Chinese aluminum bar saw little movement at CNY 14,050 ($2,258) per metric ton.
