Base Metals Roundup: China Aluminum Scrap, Copper Scrap Prices Rise

today's metal prices - MetalMiner IndXStrengthening prices ended a three-day flat streak as the price of Chinese aluminum scrap moved up by 1.4 percent on Thursday, May 23. After a few days of little change, the price of Chinese aluminum billet jumped 0.3 percent. The cash price of Chinese aluminum held steady. The price of Chinese aluminum bar saw essentially no change for the fifth day in a row.

The Indian aluminum cash price rose 0.2 percent.

The aluminum 3-month price finished the market day on the LME up 0.2 percent per metric ton. On the LME, the cash price of primary aluminum inched up 0.1 percent to $1,837 per metric ton.

Current Copper Prices

The copper 3-month price saw the biggest upwards shift for the day, rising 1.3 percent on the LME to close at $7,505 per metric ton on Thursday, May 23. At $7,475, the primary copper cash price finished the market day on the LME up 1.2 percent per metric ton.

The price of US copper producer grade 122 rose 1.0 percent. After a 1.0 percent increase, the price of US copper producer grade 110 finished the day higher. The price of US copper producer grade 102 rose 1.0 percent. The Japanese copper cash price saw little price change yesterday.

Chinese copper prices were mixed for the day. The price of Chinese copper wire declined 1.2 percent. Chinese copper bar fell 0.9 percent yesterday. The Chinese copper cash price saw a 0.9 percent decline. The price of Chinese bright copper scrap finished the day following a 0.5 percent increase.
