Copper 3-Month Price Rises 1.3%

The copper 3-month price saw the biggest upwards shift for the day, rising 1.3 percent on the LME to close at $7,505 per metric ton on Thursday, May 23. At $7,475, the primary copper cash price finished the market day on the LME up 1.2 percent per metric ton.

The price of US copper producer grade 122 rose 1.0 percent to $4.04 per pound. After a 1.0 percent increase, the price of US copper producer grade 110 finished the day at $4.04 per pound. The price of US copper producer grade 102 rose 1.0 percent to $4.23 per pound. The Japanese copper cash price saw little price change yesterday at JPY 774,000 ($7,501) per metric ton.

Chinese copper prices were mixed for the day. The price of Chinese copper wire declined 1.2 percent to CNY 53,510 ($8,723) per metric ton. At CNY 54,600 ($8,901) per metric ton, Chinese copper bar fell 0.9 percent yesterday. The Chinese copper cash price saw a 0.9 percent decline to CNY 54,800 ($8,933) per metric ton. The price of Chinese bright copper scrap finished the day at CNY 44,540 ($7,261) per metric ton following a 0.5 percent increase.
