ArcelorMittal, SunCoke Energy Inc Extend Contract, Slab Price Down

ArcelorMittal has renewed its relationship with SunCoke Energy to continue getting metallurgical coal for its integrated operations in East Chicago.

“Under the agreement, SunCoke furnishes ArcelorMittal’s integrated mills in East Chicago with 1.22 million tons of metallurgical coke a year,” according to NWI Times. SunCoke will pass costs along to ArcelorMittal, according to the article.

On Monday, September 9, the day’s biggest mover on MetalMiner’s daily index was the price of Chinese steel slab, which saw a 1.1 percent decline.

The price of Chinese HRC remained steady. The price of Chinese coking coal continues hovering in place for the fifth day in a row. The prices of iron ore 58% fines from India remained rangebound.

Also on the LME, the steel billet cash price held steady around $145.00 per metric ton. The 3-month price of steel billet saw little price change yesterday on the LME at $170.00 per metric ton.

After holding steady for the past few days, the US HRC futures contract 3-month price fell 0.5 percent, closing at $625.00 per short ton. The spot price of the US HRC futures contract moved on Monday. After a few changeless days, prices dropped 0.5 percent to $642.00 per short ton.
