Cash Price of Primary Copper Shifts Up 1.5%

With a 1.5 percent increase over the past day, the copper cash price was the biggest mover on the LME, closing at $7,325 per metric ton on Tuesday, December 17. Also on the LME, the 3-month price of copper gained 1.2 percent to finish at $7,305 per metric ton.

The price of US copper producer grade 122 rose 0.5 percent to $4.07 per pound. After a 0.5 percent increase, the price of US copper producer grade 110 finished the day at $4.07 per pound. At $4.26, the price of US copper producer grade 102 finished the market day up 0.5 percent per pound. The Japanese copper cash price steadied at JPY 785,000 ($7,618) per metric ton following two-days of increases.

Chinese copper prices were mixed for the day. Chinese copper bar prices inched up 0.2 percent to CNY 52,320 ($8,618) per metric ton. The cash price of Chinese copper rose 0.2 percent to CNY 52,520 ($8,651) per metric ton. The price of Chinese copper wire held steady at CNY 51,200 ($8,433) per metric ton. The price of Chinese bright copper scrap saw little movement at CNY 44,600 ($7,346) per metric ton.
