Aluminum Improves Slightly; Chinese Aluminum Scrap Falls

The cash price of primary aluminum saw the biggest upwards shift for the day, rising 2.2 percent on the LME to close at $1,752 per metric ton on Friday, January 17. On the LME, the aluminum 3-month price rose 2.0 percent to $1,795 per metric ton. After a couple of days of improving prices, the Indian aluminum cash price held steady.

Chinese aluminum prices were mixed for the day. After remaining flat for three days, the price of Chinese aluminum scrap fell 0.8 percent last Friday. The Chinese aluminum cash price inched up 0.1 percent. The price of Chinese aluminum billet remained essentially flat. The price of Chinese aluminum bar was unchanged.
