Novelis, has commissioned a new aluminum slitting and packing line at the Aluminium Norf GmbH (Alunorf) site, its joint-venture facility in Neuss, Germany. The new facility will increase the plant’s finishing capacity for beverage can sheet.
Novelis will process aluminum manufacturing scrap from its customers across Europe as well as from its own facilities. It is the second phase of a recycling expansion project at Alunorf that began in 2009 with the construction of a similar recycling facility funded by the joint venture partner, Hydro. With this expansion, the combined capacity of the plant’s integrated recycling operations is 100,000 metric tons per year.
The Chinese aluminum cash price saw a 1.1 percent increase on Thursday, April 24, reaching CNY 13,300 ($2,132) per metric ton and making it the biggest mover for the day. The price of Chinese aluminum bar continues hovering around CNY 14,200 ($2,276) per metric ton for the fifth day in a row. The price of Chinese aluminum billet held steady at CNY 13,590 ($2,179) per metric ton. The price of Chinese aluminum scrap saw little movement at CNY 12,250 ($1,964) per metric ton.
On the LME, the cash price of primary aluminum fell 0.6 percent to $1,835 per metric ton. The aluminum 3-month price weakened by 0.6 percent on the LME, settling at $1,874 per metric ton. The Indian aluminum cash price saw little change in its price on Thursday at INR 116.05 ($1.90) per kilogram.
