Today’s Copper Cash Price Not Huge in Japan

While the Japanese copper price on the MetalMiner IndX fell today, much of the rest of the copper complex rose slightly for the day.

The cash price of Japanese copper saw a 1.0 percent drop on Friday, September 5, landing at JPY 758,000 ($7,178) per metric ton and making it the biggest mover of the day. The price of US copper producer grade 110 increased 0.5 percent to $3.84 per pound. The price of US copper producer grade 122 gained 0.5 percent to finish at $3.84 per pound. The price of US copper producer grade 102 rose 0.5 percent to $4.03 per pound.

Chinese copper closed mixed last Friday. After a 0.4 percent increase, Chinese copper bar finished the day at CNY 51,400 ($8,372) per metric ton. At CNY 51,600 ($8,404), the Chinese copper cash price finished the market day up 0.4 percent per metric ton. The price of Chinese copper wire saw little movement at CNY 50,395 ($8,208) per metric ton. The price of Chinese bright copper scrap was unchanged at CNY 44,300 ($7,215) per metric ton.

On the LME, the copper 3-month price inched up 0.6 percent to $6,950 per metric ton. Also on the LME, the primary copper cash price rose 0.6 percent to $6,967 per metric ton.
