Alcoa Debuts Lightest Aluminum Truck Wheel in Europe

Alcoa has released its lightest aluminum truck wheel in Europe.

The MagnaForce alloy used for the Ultra One aluminum wheel was developed at the company’s Alcoa Technical Center, based in New Kensington, Pa. The new 40-lb. wheel is 47% lighter than steel wheels of the same size, and can save up to 1,400 lbs. per rig, according to Alcoa.

The cash price of primary aluminum saw the biggest upwards shift for the day, rising 0.2% on the LME to close at $1,927 per metric ton on Friday, September 26. On the LME, the 3-month price of aluminum rose 0.2% to $1,960 per metric ton. The cash price of primary Indian aluminum saw little movement last Friday, closing out around INR 119.90 ($1.95) per kilogram.

Chinese aluminum prices closed flat for the day. The price of Chinese aluminum scrap continues hovering around CNY 12,250 ($1,997) per metric ton for the fifth day in a row. The price of Chinese aluminum billet saw essentially no change for the fifth day in a row, remaining around CNY 13,590 ($2,215) per metric ton. The price of Chinese aluminum bar held steady at CNY 14,200 ($2,314) per metric ton. The Chinese aluminum cash price remained essentially flat at CNY 13,960 ($2,275) per metric ton.
