Embraer SA Launches E2 E-Jet, as Aluminum Cash Price Drifts Down

With Boeing and Airbus fighting in the background, Embraer S.A. announced a new generation of E-Jets as the aircraft company “foresees a demand for 6,400 commercial jets with capacity of up to 130 seats, over the next 20 years,” according to a recent release.

As for the design and execution of these aircraft, “the E-Jets E2 will be capable of achieving similar costs per seat of larger re-engined narrowbody aircraft, with significantly lower costs per trip, thus creating new opportunities for lower risk development of new markets and fleet right-sizing by airlines.”

One of the main raw material elements of airplane construction, aluminum, saw price drops on the day.

The cash price of primary aluminum saw the biggest decline of the day, dropping 1.6 percent on the LME to close at $1,813 per metric ton on Friday, June 14. On the LME, the 3-month price of aluminum fell 1.4 percent to $1,856 per metric ton.

Chinese aluminum scrap prices were unchanged. The price of Chinese aluminum billet saw essentially no change for the fifth day in a row. The price of Chinese aluminum bar continues hovering in place for the fifth day in a row. The Chinese aluminum cash price saw little movement last Friday.
